Yesterday, your U.S. Senator, Arlen Specter, announced that he would vote against even allowing a debate about the leveling the playing field with the Employee Free Choice Act.

He said that he doesn't believe that this is a good time to create more secure & good-paying union jobs. If we're going to get out of our current economic mess, Pennsylvania will need those secure jobs now, more than ever.

It doesn't make sense - how can someone who is such a strong supporter of the democratic process refuse to allow even a simple, meaningful debate about such an important issue?

The mission to restore our middle class has never been more important than it is right now. Senator Specter has been a supporter of the Employee Free Choice Act including as an original cosponsor in 2005. He has continually acknowledged the need for practical solutions to the huge barriers workers in our country face when trying to form a union. His statement today opposing an up or down vote and real discussion is inconsistent with his own record of support for working people. We will continue to work with Democrats and Republicans to pass this vital legislation and make the economy work for everyone again.
